Show transcript
00:00
Get on that me too fam today right here with Izzy Bare
00:02
from HGTV's Flip or Flop and his new show,
00:04
Izzy does it. So yay,
00:11
congratulations on your new show.
00:14
Can you tell us a little more about Izzy Does It
00:17
Yeah, so the show is following myself and my familia
00:22
How do I describe my family?
00:24
Rude but excellent, sweet but crazy,
00:27
artistic but sarcastic, anti-social social media director.
00:32
Yeah. We're 3 generations into the business and we're just doing
00:36
what we were taught to do for my pops,
00:38
you know, they immigrated to here to the United States and
00:42
construction we fell in love with it and we started a business
00:46
and that's what we're doing.
00:47
And from where did they immigrate from?
00:49
So my mom's from Oaxaca and my dad's from Torreon Cahuilla.
00:54
Wow, that's awesome.
00:56
So is it, so is this show kind of like.
00:59
we were talking about it earlier,
01:00
so it's like a like bar rescue,
01:03
but like, but for homes.
01:05
So like you could say that yeah you're like the Taffer,
01:09
the Latino Taffer. Or they're like,
01:13
I met my ride,
01:15
you know, it's like a little like upgrade like,
01:16
you know what I'm gonna install this.
01:17
I'm gonna you like doing like,
01:19
you know, arts and crafts and put a whole art studio
01:21
in your thing or it's a little bit of everything.
01:23
It's a little bit of everything because the this mad thing
01:26
noguta and all that,
01:27
that happens behind the cameras.
01:30
It happens all behind the cameras,
01:32
but when we get to really style out a home,
01:36
you could say we pimp it out like there's an island that
01:39
we pimp out. I mean there's a lot of.
01:41
Features of the house that we pimp out for sure and as
01:44
far as the bar rescue we're definitely rescuing people their families for
01:48
like a mess that they live in and then we give them
01:51
back the keys and then they love it.
01:53
And I have a question to add too why do you think
01:56
our gente, they're so good with homes?
01:59
I think it's in our DNA.
02:01
I mean, you know,
02:02
they built the pyramids.
02:04
Nobody questions who built those,
02:06
right? Nobody questions it,
02:09
and you know we.
02:11
Building since civilization started.
02:13
When you think about building,
02:14
you think about providing family,
02:17
providing safety. You think about providing memories and our culture.
02:22
We're all about family.
02:23
We're all about breaking bread,
02:25
having a place to create,
02:27
families, you know,
02:28
the, the daughter doesn't move out till she gets married,
02:31
and then when she moves out,
02:32
she still comes back to the house,
02:34
the house is still there,
02:36
yeah, so you're Latino on AC TV.
02:38
Like what does that mean for you and your It means a
02:41
lot. It means a lot.
02:42
I, I don't think about it until my kids tell me
02:45
hey dad, you know,
02:46
you're, and I'm just thinking like,
02:48
you know, I'm a,
02:49
you know,
02:50
God is the one that raises up and gives promotion.
02:52
It comes from above.
02:53
But then they remind me it's like,
02:55
yeah, but you're Latino,
02:56
you know, it's a big deal and I've never really seen
02:59
it that way, maybe because I grew up in the,
03:02
you know, 80s and stuff like that.
03:03
I never really experienced it,
03:05
seen it that way,
03:07
but they remind me and in my.
03:09
My culture comes out,
03:10
you know, the carne asada,
03:12
the family, you know,
03:15
lapis, you know,
03:16
all like all of that stuff is like it's in me.
03:18
I know before we started shooting we're getting into like just,
03:23
you know, just talking about the swap meet and everything and
03:26
I, I know you're from,
03:27
Orange County,
03:28
so I asked you if you go to the Costa Mesa swap
03:32
meet and you were like,
03:33
I remember that swap meet,
03:34
right? And what would you get from there?
03:37
So I mean swap meets are a Latino shopping mall right this
03:43
is true. We didn't go to the mall.
03:45
We were almost like swap meet mio la egas yeah we didn't
03:52
go to South Coast Plaza.
03:54
We didn't do any of that,
03:55
right? So we would go to the swap swap meet and
03:58
that's where my dad would see irramijoki buenas ramientas.
04:02
That's where you're gonna get all your tools.
04:04
Like, I don't ask where they came from.
04:10
Hey, I just know that they're good price points on the
04:14
real though. They're,
04:14
they're, they're, they're legit.
04:15
They're legit pro tip right here.
04:17
So we wanna like play a game with you,
04:19
right? We look at classic Latino home hacks.
04:21
You can tell us like,
04:22
are they genius or are they just straight up generational trauma and
04:25
we gotta cut it,
04:28
all right. Right,
04:28
so first up we have Latinos don't have trauma.
04:32
Oh no, never.
04:32
I mean that's what they say.
04:32
We laugh at our pain.
04:42
I got you. I got you.
04:45
So, so first up we have the iconic butter container.
04:48
Tupperware genius or generational trauma?
04:51
I think it's trauma.
04:54
I think it's trauma with all these micro microplastics and all this
05:00
stuff. I don't know.
05:01
I don't know. Pans in the oven.
05:04
A storage storage. It's bad that I still have that.
05:11
I think it's genius.
05:13
We're not using the oven 24/7.
05:15
Like it's organized at least like I was a little less organized
05:17
but mine, you know,
05:18
yeah, yeah, that's not that you put it away,
05:24
especially if you only have two more cabinets or also you're gonna
05:26
put in the two cabinets of plastic bags,
05:29
you know, this is true.
05:31
Oh, and that's a good segue to our next one.
05:33
So plastic bags. Trash can liner like machi like we pay
05:36
10 cents for that bag and you under the sink all of
05:43
them. Well, since we started paying for them in my
05:46
house, we don't have them no more.
05:48
But before that, when they're free,
05:51
when they were free,
05:52
they were everywhere. I think it's saving a buck.
05:56
OK,, plastic covered sofas.
06:00
I will eat that roll.
06:02
I know, I know his answer.
06:03
I know his answer.
06:05
Yeah, he's like,
06:06
that's that's OK, summers,
06:11
you know, and your parents,
06:12
you know, they don't pay for air conditioning.
06:15
me growing up, my parents never turned on the AC,
06:18
and we didn't have said,
06:19
no, the fans.
06:19
And all that sitting on that and then then every weekend you're
06:24
having to clean them.
06:25
It was bad, you know what I'm curious imagine you lift
06:28
it up years later and it's all yellow.
06:30
It's not clear anymore.
06:31
It's like all the pseudo and the dirt.
06:34
Well, thank you so much,
06:35
Izzy for joining us.
06:40
